UNISON People

Here at University Hospital Birmingham, UNISON is as strong as our members and we rely on members getting involved. From workplace contacts sharing information with members and staff to the UNISON Stewards recruiting, organising and supporting members in workplaces, to Branch Officers leading the Branch UNISON relies on members getting involved.

Our Current Branch Officers are:

Branch Secretary

Sharon Otto

Leads the Branch and supports all Officers, Stewards and other Reps. Ensures the Branch is working well and involving members.

Branch Chair

James Anthony

Chairs meetings of the Branch including the Branch Committee and AGM, advises the Branch on the Rules, and along with the Branch Secretary provides leadership to the Branch.

Treasurer

Jude Wilde

Responsible for organising the Branch’s finances, keeping records, providing reports and advising the Branch on financial matters.

Health & Safety Officer

Bob Shakeshaft

Leads on the negotiation and implementation of Health & Safety. Supports and co-ordinates local Health & Safety Representatives

Education Officer

Sue Higgins

Leads on supporting the education needs of UNISON members and representatives. 

Equality Officer

Malkit Tung

Leads on the negotiation and implementation of Equality policies.  Ensures under-represented groups are fully involved in the Branch and the wider union.

Young Members Officer

Vacant

(Must be under 27 until February 2011)

Ensures Young Members are recruited and involved in the Branch and wider union. Ensures the Branch considers issues of concern to Young Members.

 

Black Members Officer

Jill Robinson

Ensures Black Members are recruited and involved in the Branch and wider union. Ensures the Branch considers issues of concern to Black Members.

Women’s Officer

Jenny Hobbs

Ensures Women Members are recruited and involved in the Branch and wider union. Ensures the Branch considers issues of concern to Women members.

Publicity Officer

Sue Higgins

Organises activities to promote UNISON and the Branch, ensuring members and potential members know about details of the Branch and its activities. Supports the recruitment of members.

Welfare Officer

Lin Thomas

Co-ordinates and promotes UNISON Welfare and supports members to access help.

Branch Development Officer

James Anthony

Ensures the Branch develops to meet the needs of members, including ensuring the Branch Development Plan is updated and implemented.

International Officer

Vacant

Leads work on international issues in solidarity with workers and their Trade Unions in other countries.

Labour Link (APF) Officer

James Anthony

Co-ordinates the work of UNISON Labour Link within the Branch and organises the Branch’s relationship with Regional Labour Link and local Labour Party

Retired Members Secretary

Jerry Powell

The role of the retired members’ secretary is to enable retired members of the branch to continue to be active in the union through the branch’s retired members’ section.

 We are supported by our full time official Pearline Parker-loney (Regional Organiser)
