Branch makes contribution to Haiti

MSF HaitiTodays (28/01/01) Branch Committee decided to make a donation of £250 to the work of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) (an independent humanitarian medical aid organisation) in their support for Haiti.

At the meeting Diane Fear (UNISON Steward in Renal) commented that the earthquake in Haiti was an 'international disaster.'

This donation adds to the £10 000 already donated by UNISON's National Executive.

The Branch Committee also discussed arrangement for the Branch's Annual General Meeting, which will be promoted to as many people as possible to ensure maximum participation.

The Branch also heard about the great deal of work Stewards and other reps are undertaking as part of the New Hospital Project and other support for members.  It was agreed that we need to look for more active reps to get involved.

The Committee also discussed the negotiations getting underway in the Trust around standardising issues such as on-call payments and breaks.  The Committee also heard an update on the Independent Safeguarding Authority where the Branch agreed that ensuring members don't have to pay the £64 charge is a priority for our negotiating.

Branch Committee meets on the last Thursday of every month at 10am in the Joint Union Office at Selly Oak Hospital.
