Branch Committee hears of members anger over Special Leave procedure

Branch Committee today (25/03/10) heard of from reps about members being given the wrong interpretation of the new Special Leave procedure which resulted from the wrong version being published on the intranet.

Staff have been told that they will need to make time up or use annual leave for hospital appointments, but this is not the case.   The Joint Unions, including UNISON, have negotiated and agreed a new procedure, appointments should be made where possible at the beginning or end of the day to reduce disruption and staff with flexible working arrangements should acommodate the appointment that way.

After the Branch Committee Sharon Otto, UNISON Branch Secretary, met with the appropriate HR Manager to clarify the situation and communication will be going out to managers today to ensure they follow the correct interpretation.

The Branch agreed that as a health service employer it is important that the trust supports the health of it's own staff.

The Branch also agreed our recruitment events for the year, looking at what activities will be needed when we move to the new hospital.

The Branch agreed a number of nominations for Regional UNISON positions as well as positions within the Joint Unions here at UHB.

Branch Committee meets on the last Thursday of every month at 10am in the Joint Union Office at Selly Oak Hospital. For more information contact James Anthony, Branch Chair
